Please read the following for more information about volunteering:

“The Rochester Children’s Book Festival is an incredible coming together of creative minds and book lovers alike.

Being a volunteer with the festival means being a part of it all…interacting with both the authors and illustrators who

bring the words to life, and with those who love and appreciate their creations. Seeing the excitement on the faces

of children and adults alike as you help them experience the festival makes it all so worthwhile.”

----Stephanie Stussman, a volunteer coordinator.

Here are a few ways to volunteer at the festival…

  • Official Greeter
This volunteer hands out festival booklets as guests enter the building, pointing out different activities. Looking for friendly people with a big smile!

  • Assisting Lift Bridge Books
Helpers are needed to assist the cashiers in checking out purchased books. Good customer service skills and friendly personality a must!

  • Presentation Room Monitor
Volunteers needed to assist in rooms where authors and illustrators will be giving talks. You will greet guests, get everyone seated in a timely manner, and introduce the presenter.

  • Author/Illustrator Associate
Comfortable in a crowd? These volunteers work in the busy mall area; monitoring lines, helping guests with book signings, assisting the authors and illustrators in getting what they need and reminding them when they are due for a presentation.

  • Busy Bookworm Place
Love kids and crafts? This is the place for you! You will work with kids at craft tables, monitor supplies, keep your craft area tidy. The goal of this room is to connect kids with the books through crafts. This is the perfect position for an education student or anyone who loves working with children!

  • Read to Me Corner
Volunteers who love to read aloud are needed for this fun area of the festival. You will greet authors as they arrive and introduce them to the audience. You will help people get seated, authors will read from their works. If authors finish early, you will read a book while waiting for the next author to arrive.

  • Hall Monitors
These invaluable volunteers walk around the venue, greeting guests and help to direct them to different rooms and point out the presentations going on. If you love to talk to people, this is the job for you!

  • NEW THIS YEAR: Tech Volunteers

  • If you're adept at connecting laptops for PowerPoint presentations, please let us know. The smart classrooms are easy to use, but we want someone there to help each author/illustrator get connected at the beginning of their presentation.

The Rochester Children’s Book Festival would not be the amazing festival that it is without our awesome volunteers. You are the reason that so many authors, illustrators, librarians, teachers, parents and children rave about our festival.

Thank you for your consideration in joining our team!
